UC Davis is encouraging students to stay in for Spring Break with money.
The school is offering $75 to students who stay in town over Spring Break, according to CBS13.
Only 500 students who apply for a Spring Break grant will be eligible for the cash. The grants are being offered by Healthy Davis Together.
The cash incentives are thanks to a partnership between UC Davis and the city of Davis dedicated to preventing the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although numbers in cases and hospitalizations are dropping across the country, health officials are still recommending that people avoid non-essential travel to slow the spread of the virus.
Spring Break parties and travel has been a concern for health officials. Some schools, including Ohio State and New York State, have canceled their Spring Breaks altogether.
The CDC has also put out a Travelers' Health guide for the break. However, they discourage people from traveling.
"Travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. CDC recommends that you do not travel at this time," reads their website. "Delay travel and stay home to protect yourself and others from COVID-19."
UC Davis students who are planning on a "staycation" this Spring Break can apply for the grant money here.
