Homer The Firefighter? Charlotte Knights Mascot Douses Fire Outside Truist

Charlotte's favorite dragon proved to be a hero on Tuesday (March 9) when he quickly sprung into action after spotting a fire near Truist Field.

Charlotte Knights mascot Homer the Dragon was shooting a video in the team store when the store manager saw a fire across the street. Homer quickly ran over to check it out, finding a small brush fire in a flower bed near Truist and Romare Bearden Park, WCNC reports. When he saw an empty fire extinguisher sitting nearby, the remnant of another citizen's attempt at putting out the fire, he knew he had to do something to help. He grabbed another fire extinguisher and got to work.

Engine 4 of the Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene, with officials saying that when they arrived, Homer was already at work dousing the flames, the news station reports. They were happy to find Homer going above and beyond his normal duties and let him use the fire hose to extinguish the danger.

"Homer was in the neighborhood and assisted Charlotte Fire Engine 4 with putting the fire out," the department said.

"I'm so thankful for the brave citizen that started putting the fire out, those that called 911, and the Engine 4 crew," Homer's team translated for him. "It was an honor to protect and serve the neighborhood and city that I love."
