Thirty-one missing DFW children will be able to go home after they were rescued by federal agents.
Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service worked with local law enforcement as part of “Operation Missing in the Metroplex." The operation lasted a month and was focused on finding missing children who are vulnerable to human trafficking.
“To observe law enforcement partnerships and community concerns culminate into such a successful recovery outcome is rewarding,” said Acting United States Marshal Quintella Downs-Bradshaw. “Victims should know they are not forgotten, there is hope and a way to return home.”
At least seven of the 31 children were were rescued from sex trafficking. The youngest was 13-years-old. Authorities relied on confidential tips and social media evidence to find the seven children. One girl was found during a prostitution sting in Houston.
“These kids and teens represent some of our most vulnerable populations where adults try to prey on their innocence. We will not rest until every child is located safe and someone is held accountable," Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said.
The other 24 kids were found with friends and relatives, and have now been reunited with the legal guardians.
