Actor Matthew McConaughey is undoubtedly the most pro-Texas celebrity, but will the Oscar winning actor be willing to leave Hollywood behind to lead his home state?

He appeared on the The Balanced Voice podcast and was asked if he'd consider running for Texas governor. McConaughey said "it's a true consideration."

The interview mainly focused on his memoir Greenlights but McConaughey also reflected on his role as at professor at the University of Texas, being a father, and his thoughts about leadership.

"I'm looking into now again, what is my leadership role? Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What's my category in my next chapter of life that I'm going into now?" he said.

The 51-year-old was previously asked about running for governor but dismissed the idea of getting into politics.

"I have no plans to do that right now Right now? No. I don't get politics. Politics seems to be a broken business. Politics needs to redefine its purpose. As I move forward in life, yes, am I going to consider leadership roles where I can be most useful? I'd love to. I'm doing that regardless. That's where I sit right now," he said on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert in November.

He said something similar on a different podcast last year. Running for governor "wouldn’t be up to me. It would be up to the people more than it would me," he said.

McConaughey has some time to decide if he wants to give up acting for politics. Gov. Greg Abbott is up for reelection in 2022.
