An 89-year-old Sacramento man had his wedding ring stolen straight off his finger in his own front yard, reports FOX40.
The family is hoping the woman who stole their grandfather's wedding ring will be found and arrested.
"She twisted and twisted and it was hurting so bad. But she got it off," said James Sweatt. "I looked up and I said, 'Lady get back out of my yard. Get out of here. I don't know who are you are. You are not who I thought you might have been.'"
The incident took place just outside of Sweatt's South Sacramento home at around 2:00 P.M.
Sweatt says the woman approached him trying to sell fake jewelry.
"She was pretending that she wanted to sell it to me and she was on about, 'We're just broke and I need something. Get some gas,'" Sweatt said to FOX40. "I am like, 'I'm sorry I don't have nothing, I can't help you.' She just got busy."
Within two minutes, Sweatt says she had his ring and threw her fake jewelry at him before taking off.
According to family members, the woman wanted Sweatt to take out his wallet but when he refused she went for the ring instead.
"The fact that she had the audacity to steal the ring off of an old man, who can't even defend himself, it makes me sick to my stomach thinking that," said Sweatt's son Jeremy.
"I will try to have a little more protection when I go outside," said Sweatt, who vows to change his outdoor activity after the incident.
FOX40 confirmed the incident has been sent to Sacramento police and detectives are following up on the investigation.
