Lil Baby delivered a powerful performance of his hit "The Bigger Picture" at the 2021 Grammy Awards on Sunday (March 14).

The Atlanta rapper's impactful performance began with actor and activist Kendrick Sampson being confronted by two police officers after falling asleep in front of a storefront, referencing the 2020 police killing of Rayshard Brooks. Later in Lil Baby's set, activist Tamika Mallory delivered a speech, in which she spoke out about police brutality and called up President Joe Biden to take action.

"We demand justice," she said. "We don't need allies, we need accomplices." Killer Mike then performed a portion of his verse from Run The Jewels' "Walking In The Snow."

A James Baldwin quote was also read during the introduction of Lil Baby’s performance:

"When I was brought up I was taught in American history books that Africa had no history and that neither had I. I was a savage about whom the least said the better, who had been saved by Europe and who had been brought to America. Of course, I believed it. I didn't have much choice.

Lil Baby teased his powerful performance in a press release ahead of Sunday's show, saying, “My performance is important to me and I had to make sure it was right." He added, "Nominations aside, actually performing 'The Bigger Picture' means the most to me. I paint pictures with my songs and wanted the performance to bring that picture to life. Just like with the song, this performance had to reflect the real. No sugar-coating. My family, my fans and my city know who I do this for."

“The Bigger Picture” was nominated for Best Rap Song.
