Several tourists and spring breakers say they're frustrated Sunday (March 21) in Miami Beach as authorities enforced the curfew and other measures, according to NBC 6.
"It's a little annoying that we have to be in by 8 o'clock," one visitor told reporters. "We're usually down here till at least midnight or later."
Businesses and restaurants must be closed by 8 p.m. and sidewalk cafes need to shut down by 7 p.m. Takeout and delivery services can continue past those times. Some visitors weren't even aware of the curfew or emergency declaration.
"We didn't know about the emergency declaration either, so we just came down," another tourist, Nick Medis said. "We had a few reservations that all got canceled."
Miami Beach city officials voted to extend the curfew and road closures until at least April 13 in an attempt to quell the recent chaos that unfolded over the last two weeks. Nearly 150 people were arrested and two police officers were hurt between March 11 and March 14. This past weekend, over 1,000 people were reportedly taken into custody.
While some local businesses are worried about losing money from the curfew, some said they're just as concerned about the unrest.
"It's somewhat of a chaos," Kevin Padron, the manager at Red Head Sandwich, said. "They'll knock over the chairs and tables, so now we have to put everything away due to that situation, and then hope for the best."
