GALLERY: Significant Damage In Birmingham After Large Tornado Touches Down

Birmingham and the Central Alabama experienced significant damage after a large tornado moved through the area Thursday (March 25) afternoon.
ChaserWx's Brandon Copic shared a video of the large, violent tornado on Thursday (March 25) afternoon, which included "flinging debris."
A tornado warning remains in effect for East Central Sumter County until 4:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Tishabee moving at 45 MPH at around 4:15 p.m.
NWS Birmingham warned flying debris would be dangerous to individuals caught without shelter during the storm and mobile homes are expected to be damaged or destroyed. Roofs, windows and vehicles are also expected to be prone to damage.

Popular longtime ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann announced his house sustained damage during the severe tornado storm on Thursday (March 25) afternoon.
“The reason I had to step out, we had major damage at my house,” Spann said when he returned to the ABC 33/40 broadcast. “My wife is OK, but the tornado came right through there and it’s not good, it’s bad. It’s bad.”

Residents are advised to take cover immediately and move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a study building away from windows. Any individuals outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle are advised to move to the closest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
