You might notice several military helicopters flying over the Denver metro area throughout the week.

This is because crews are currently training for the upcoming wildfire season, according to Denver7.

The annual wildland fire training conference hosted by the Colorado Army National Guard's 2nd Brigade, 135th General Support Aviation Battalion will run from April 13 to April 18.

The training will take place from 8:00 A.M. to about 4:00 P.M. each day of the conference.

Coloradans who live near the Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora and Button Rock Reservoir in Lyons will likely see military helicopters like the LUH-72 Lakota, UH-60 Black Hawk, and CH-47 Chinook, flying throughout the rest of the week.

The helicopters will drop water on simulated fires as part of their training.

According to Adjutant General of Colorado Brig. Gen. Laura Cellan, this week's training will prove the Colorado National Guard's capability of protecting the people during wildfire season.

"The equipment our soldiers use for warfighting increases our fire suppression capability while crews are at home," said Clellan.

Crews from Colorado will be joined by crews from Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.

There will also be academic training in fire behavior and shelters and airspace coordination in addition to aerial operations, report Denver7.
