Denver could see near-record low temperatures on Monday, April 19.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an advisory from 3:00 P.M. on Monday to 3:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 20.
Denver, Fort Collins, Castle Rock, and Greely are expected to total snow accumulations of three to six inches.
"Snow will develop and become heavy at times from north to south across the Front Range this afternoon, and then continue through the evening," reads the Winter Weather Advisory issued early Monday morning. "Snowfall rates around one inch per hour can be expected along the I-25 Corridor, and up to 2 inches per hour in the Front Range Foothills."
Residents should be cautious on their evening commute on Monday. Roads will be slippery and the snow may cause hazardous conditions.
Denver will be around 45 degrees with mostly sunny skies throughout the day. However, after nightfall, the NWS predicts the city will reach a close to record coldness of 16 degrees. The current record is 13 degrees, reports the Denver Post.
"Temperatures will drop quickly, causing a possible flash freeze on roads and very slick/hazardous travel conditions," reads the advisory. "The evening commute will likely be impacted, especially by 5 pm along the I-25 Corridor, and by 3 pm in the northern foothills."
