This weekend's March snowstorm was on track to make history, and that it did.

By early Monday, March 15, it became Denver's fourth-largest storm on record since 1881, reports 9NEWS.

It was also the second-largest snowstorm the city has ever seen during the month of March.

Before March 13 and 14, Denver's fourth-largest snowstorm was Christmas Eve of 1982 which brought in 23.8 inches of snowfall.

The conditions caused extended power outages in the metro area. Denver International Airport was also forced to close all of the runways and airline operations on Sunday as crews worked to clear snow and ice, according to 9NEWS.
