Seven people were arrested after authorities discovered the mummified body of the leader of a spiritual cult in a Colorado home, reports the Associated Press.

The body was found wrapped in a sleeping bag and decorated with Christmas lights.

Amy Carlson, 45, also known as the "Mother God" by followers, was the leader of the spiritual group "Love Has Won," which is often described as a 'brainwashing' and 'abusive' cult.

Carlson was found dead in a home in the rural town of Moffat on Wednesday, April 28, according to obtained arrest affidavits for the seven people charged with abuse of a corpse.

One follower, who was not charged, told investigators he had taken in a group of people who needed a place to stay. After a trip to Denver, the man returned on Wednesday and discovered the mummified body in a back bedroom.

He reported it to the Saguache County Sheriff's Office and told them he believed the group of people transported Carlson's body from California.

“The mummified remains appeared to be set up in some type of shrine” and “have what appears to be glitter type makeup on around the eyes,” according to the affidavits obtained by AP.

Investigators also searched an SUV near the house and said the back seat was laid down in a position “consistent with someone transporting the mummified remains.”

The seven people arrested also face charges of child abuse since a 13-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy were in the home at the time, reports AP.

The cause or manner of death has still not been released, according to the Saguache County coroner's office.

"Love Has Won" was established in southern Colorado in 2018. A short documentary on Amy Carlson and the group was done by VICE.
