With COVID-19 restrictions loosening up in Colorado and across the country, travel numbers are skyrocketing at Denver International Airport (DIA), reports FOX31.

In fact, travel numbers have increased by over 800% in 2021 compared to 2020, according to a spokesperson for DIA.

In 2020, the week of April 26 through May 2, DIA saw around 29,948 people go through. During the same week this year, DIA saw an average of 40,000 people every day, bringing the week's total to 282,682 people.

There are still COVID-19 restrictions in place at DIA and most airports.

TSA has extended mask requirements for passengers over two years old on planes. The mask mandate will stay in place until September 13, according to FOX31.

Those who refuse to follow the mask mandate will face penalties including being asked to leave a flight or being fined.

Fines start as low as $250 and reach $1,500 for repeat offenders.

Masks are also required inside of the terminal, on the train, or at your gate at the Denver airport. The only exceptions are when you are actively eating or drinking.
