Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) are making sure local residents are "Bear Aware" after a bear was seen roaming around a Highlands Ranch neighborhood, reports FOX31.
CPW shared a resident's video of the bear on their Twitter account.
"Awareness of bear activity can be positive & used to help identify sources attracting bears into your community. Like these trash cans placed out overnight," wrote CPW.
The warning comes after a deadly bear attack happened at the beginning of May. CPW officers found human remains in the stomachs of multiple bears near Durango. It was the first fatal bear attack Colorado has seen since 2009.

CPW and other agencies have released tips to help residents be more bear aware:
- Most Colorado bears are active from mid-March through early November before heading to their winter dens.
- Bears are capable of smelling food five miles away, thanks to a nose 100 times more sensitive than the human nose.
- Be aware of items such as full trash cans which attract bears to residential homes.
- Bears have good memories and once they find food they will return to the spot for more.
- From the late summer to early fall bears need 20,000 calories per day to gain enough fat to survive the winter.
