A non-profit organization of doctors has filed a lawsuit against UC Davis for allegedly dangerous and deadly experiments on monkeys, reports ABC10.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is calling on UC Davis for transparency and accountability over the experiments. The non-profit group includes 17,000 physicians.

According to ABC10, the group alleges that 29 monkeys are being used for unnecessary and deadly experiments.

UC Davis currently has a contract with Neuralink, a Bay Area neurotechnology company that works with implantable brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) founded by Elon Musk.

The university is able to run experiments on animals under the contract.

“We want the public to know," Deborah Press, counsel for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, told ABC10. "And we want to know how these animals are being treated and ensure that their welfare is being considered."

"I think it's important to show the public how serious and devastating this work is to animals," Press continued.

According to ABC10, UC Davis did not want to comment on the lawsuit but they did send them a statement that read, "UC Davis follows all appropriate laws and regulations including public records. We strive to take the best possible care of animals in our charged and the UC Davis animal care program is internationally recognized and fully accredited."
