Casa Bonita fans have been rallying around the iconic restaurant after it was revealed the owners had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April.
Now, fans are coming together to take on some of Casa Bonita's debt.
Andrew Novick told 9NEWS the group Save Casa Bonita LLC has purchased a portion of their debt.
“When they were threatened with eviction by the landlord, then they filed for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy. That protects them from all of their creditors, but what we saw when we looked at the list of creditors, is there was a lot of small organizations that we felt bad for,” said Novick.
The list included a food distributor, a janitorial supply company, and a mariachi band, who according to Novick, are people would be the last to get their money in the case.
“We thought, one of the things we could do with the fundraising is pay off some of those small creditors,” Novick said.
The group has already paid some of the people who were owed money and now Save Casa Bonita LLC is a creditor in the bankruptcy case.
The group's overall mission is to save the restaurant. They will have another community event in support of Casa Bonita scheduled for Monday, June 14 at 6:30 P.M. outside of My Brother's Bar on 15th Street.
