Colorado Governor Jared Polis recently signed 14 healthcare bills at the Boettcher Mansion last week, reports 9NEWS.
One of the biggest bills (Bill HB21-1307) includes an Insulin Affordability Program that will let eligible participants receive a one-year prescription for no more than a $50 copay for a one-month supply, according to 9NEWS.
The program also sets the copay price cap at $35 for an emergency 30-day supply of insulin once per 12-month period.
"For Coloradans living with Type 1 Diabetes, insulin is essential to their survival - it is the same as oxygen," said Rep. Dylan Roberts (D-Eagle). "With this new law, Coloradans will no longer be forced to choose between this life-saving and life-sustaining drug and their other expenses."
Some of the other bills that have been signed by Gov. Polis are:
- Senate Bill 290: puts $15 million into the Area Agencies on Aging grant program aimed to provide services for older Coloradans
- Senate Bill 158: the Colorado Health Service Corps program now includes geriatric advanced practice providers
- Senate Bill 181: expands the existing Health Disparities Grant Program
- Senate Bill 9: provides free contraceptive care and counseling through the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing
- Senate Bill 16: requires health insurance plans to cover contraception + counseling, prevention, screening, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Senate Bill 193 & 194: inserts additional protections for pregnant people before, during, and after giving birth to state law
- House Bill 1068: insures would be required to cover yearly mental health screenings the same way they do for physical checkups or other preventive care
