The I Promise School welcomed students “to the Jam” with a red-carpet experience.

Students got a special screening of Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring NBA champion and Akron native LeBron James, courtesy of James himself.

I Promise School started when the LeBron James Family Foundation teamed up with Akron Public Schools.

The school aims to “wrap around the most at-risk students and families in Akron,” according to the LeBron James Family Foundation. “Taking a We Are Family approach to educating the whole child and family, IPS is creating a new model for urban, public education.”

cleveland.com reports that the students inspired James while filming Space Jam: A New Legacy, in which the I Promise School briefly appears. Thousands of students got to watch the movie at the Akron Civic Theatre on Thursday (July 15).

“I spent a lot of hours, a lot of time and a lot of love to be as great as I could be for you guys,” James said, according to cleveland.com. “I wish I was sitting in the movie theater with you guys, but I’m all over with Bugs, Taz and Lola (Bunny). They got me all over the place right now.”

Needless to say, the I Promise School had quite the experience:

“Welcome to the Jam, family!
“We brought our family back together for the first time in a long time & there’s no better way to do it than with a red carpet experience at the premiere of@SpaceJamMovie
“Last night was one for the books & such a memorable occasion for our Akron community. #WeAreFamily

Space Jam: A New Legacy is in theaters Friday (July 16), and available to stream on HBO Max.
