Winning a six-figure prize in the lottery is usually seen as a once in a lifetime chance. One man in North Carolina, however, recently beat those odds when he scored his second large prize in nearly seven years.
Dewey Croom is a retired truck driver living in McDowell County who recently tried his luck at the Carolina Keno lottery game. He purchased a ticket from the Sugar Hill Food Mart in Marion on Sunday, July 25, but it wasn't until the next day that he decided to check if he had won or not, per UPI. As it turns out, he won $100,000.
"I went in to check my ticket the next day," he told lottery officials. "I didn't know until Monday, that I had won on the Sunday draw!"
Croom claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on July 30, taking home a total of $70,771 after federal and state tax withholdings.
This isn't the first time Croom has won such a large prize. He scored another large prize in December 2014, winning the $125,790 Cash 5 jackpot.
So what does he plan to do with his new winnings? Croom hopes to pay off his pickup truck before putting the rest of it in the bank and possibly taking a vacation.
