We have all thought at some point while watching a zombie movie that we could survive an apocalypse better than the actors in the films, but is the city you live in among the best or worst for surviving a zombie apocalypse?
Luckily, you don't have to do your own research. Thanks to inspiration from the CDC's zombie apocalypse preparedness guide, Lawn Love sifted through data to find 2021's best cities for surviving a zombie apocalypse.
To make the rankings, Lawn Love compared 200 of the biggest U.S. cities by looking at 23 key indicators that fall under the categories of public health, vulnerability, infrastructure, supplies, protection, and mobility.
So, which Michigan cities are the best for surviving a zombie apocalypse?
- No. 40: Grand Rapids
- No. 173: Detroit
Here is what the report had to say about Detroit's low ranking:
"Detroit wasn't the worst city in our ranking at No. 173 overall, but it did come in last place in more metrics — seven out of 23 — than any other city."
"What's cannibalizing Detroit's high marks in share of homes with bunkers (No. 30) and off-grid lifestyle (No. 19)? Its lack of homes with adequate plumbing and kitchen facilities, supermarkets, malls, department stores, and weapons and ammunition suppliers, among other doomsday essentials. It also has the second least healthy population."
According to the report, here are 2021's top 20 best U.S. cities for surviving a zombie apocalypse:
