Two men in North Carolina both hit the jackpot in a Cash 5 lottery game last week, splitting the prize of more than $200,000.

Robert Leland, of Charlotte, learned he won when he woke up in the middle of the night and checked his phone, according to The Stanley News and Press.

"It was a little surprising," said Leland. "First I thought I had four numbers. I looked again and, son of a gun, I got five."

He had purchased his Quick Pick ticket from Food Lion on Sunset Road West in Charlotte ahead of the August 5 drawing. He and one other man both matched all five numbers that were drawn, resulting in the two splitting the $282,218 jackpot.

Leland claimed his half of the prize Tuesday (August 10) at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, taking home $99,838 after taxes. He plans to use his winnings to repair his car and buy a new used car.

"I'm extremely grateful," he said. "This was timely."

Andrew Stock, of Durham, was the other Cash 5 winner. He purchased his Quick Pick ticket at the Sheetz on Corporate Center Drive in Raleigh, according to lottery officials. He claimed his half of the prize, also $99,838, at lottery headquarters on August 6.
