During the summer, ice cream is the perfect choice to overcome the heat and, fortunately, there's plenty of great places around Louisiana that serve up the cold, sweet treat.
To help narrow down the search for your next cup or cone, Food & Wine compiled a list of the best ice cream in each state. To qualify, each shop had to be in "uninterrupted production" for at least one or two years.
"Even with this kind of guidance in place, the decisions in some places ended up being almost too difficult. Hopefully this list, which didn't necessarily favor old or new, but rather asked the question, fifty times, what feels the most essential, depicts as well as it can, the diversity and depth of our national ice cream culture."
So which spot serves up the best ice cream in the state?
Creole Creamery
Creole Creamery has three shops around New Orleans and has even expanded its reach into Mississippi with its Bay St. Louis location. This local favorite has plenty of the classics as well as unique seasonal flavors like A Chockwork Orange, Buttermilk Drop, and, of course, King Cake, among others.

Here's what Food & Wine had to say about Louisiana's best ice cream:
"Petit Four. Magnolia Flower. Champagne Violette. La Vie en Rosé. Steen's Molasses. Could Creole Creamery be anymore New Orleans? From bracing café au lait to tongue curling creole cream cheese, a great deal of options at this Garden District staple are about celebrating local flavor, and any ice cream love visiting the city owes it to themselves to seek this place out."
