The Killers Are Hard At Work On 'Heavier' New Album

The Killers just released their new album Pressure Machine and they're already hard at work on its "heavier" follow-up. While Pressure Machine saw the return of guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer opted out of the recording process due to COVID-19 caution. During a talk with NME, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. revealed the eighth album will be the first time all four members will be together since 2017's Wonderful Wonderful.

“I’m just supposing here, but I think the whole COVID thing made people realize how good they have it,” he said. “There have been some really kind remarks that I’ve never heard from the guys before that made saying, ‘Hey, I don’t want to not be on a record any more – so let’s do this.’ We’re very sobered up from the experience of being locked away. I do think that all four of us are going to be on this next record. We’ve already started messing around a bit, so that’s good.”

He went on to describe the new songs as “a bit heavier and more clench-fisted” than Pressure Machine, adding: “We were messing around on the stage for a virtual show the other month and it felt like there was this rock n’ roll thing happening. I could see us going in that direction: something a bit more energized.”

Though they've started the process, Vannucci clarified that fans shouldn't expect a quick turn around (Pressure Machine and 2020's Imploding the Mirage came out just over a year apart) unless the pandemic forces them to once again cancel tour dates.
