Nashville is preparing to host the United States' matchup against Canada in the first World Cup qualifying match at home.
The first qualifier will be in El Salvador on September 2, but the Americans will head back to U.S. soil when they face the Canadian team on September 5 at Nissan Stadium, per FOX 17. To get fans excited, U.S. Soccer is bringing the Concacef Gold Cup and the Nations League trophies to Music City, giving soccer fans old and new and chance to see them in person and snap some photos.
Like other major sports events in the past, a free concert will be held outside Nissan Stadium featuring singer-songwriter Ben Rector and country music artist Lindsey Ell. The show kicks off at 4:15 p.m.
This isn't the first time the major soccer tournament has kept Nashville in mind for big events. In April, it was announced that Nashville was in the running to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. City leaders were excited about the chance to showcase Nashville on an international sports stage.
"World-class soccer has shined at Nissan Stadium on several occasions," said Tennessee Titans president and CEO Burke Nahill, "and we're excited by the opportunity to place our facility and our city on a global stage."
