After hoping for some "cathartic" performances to celebrate the return of live music, Nine Inch Nails announced Thursday (August 19) that they are canceling all of their shows for the rest of 2021 due to concerns about the ongoing pandemic, per NME.
"It is with great regret that we are cancelling all NIN appearances for the remainder of this year," the band said in a statement. "When originally planned, these shows were intended to be a cathartic and celebratory return to live music. However, with each passing day it's becoming more apparent we're not at that place yet."
The band was scheduled to headline several shows next month, including Riot Fest 2021 and Louder Than Life, as well as Welcome to Rockville in November. Following NIN's announcement, Riot Fest said that Morrissey and Slipknot will perform on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
"We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and look forward to seeing you again when the time is right," the statement concluded.

Nine Inch Nails are joining the growing list of artists postponing or canceling performances for the year. On Wednesday, country artist Garth Brooks canceled several stops on his stadium tour, while Stevie Nicks canceled her 2021 tour plans and is looking "towards a brighter 2022."
