Free-agent pass-rusher Everson Griffen is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, ESPN reported.
According to ESPN, Griffen's new contract with the Vikings is not finalized but is being worked out.
Griffen was selected by the Vikings in the 2010 NFL draft and spent 10 seasons with the team until February of 2020, when he decided to leave his contract. In August of 2020, he signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys and was traded to the Detroit Lions two months later.
During his time with the Vikings, he was named a four-time Pro Bowler and had a total of 74.5 sacks, ranking seventh in franchise history. While with the Cowboys and the Lions, Griffen played 14 games and had 6 sacks and 33 tackles.
NFL Network originally reported the news about the expected new contract.
Reunion: The #Vikings are expected to sign veteran pass-rusher Everson Griffen, who worked out for his old friends last week, source said. Griffen had 6 sacks last year for the #Cowboys and #Lions, but spent every season prior in Minnesota.

With Griffen coming back to Minnesota, he has made it publicly known that he isn't the biggest fan of Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. Luckily, the two play on separate sides of the ball as Griffen is a defensive lineman and Cousins is the quarterback.
In January of this year, Griffen tweeted, "@Vikings Kirk Cousins is a**." He followed up his tweet with "Ask Zimmer who wanted Kirk?????" and "He will tell you the truth??? Who wanted Kirk Cousins??? Take your guess???" Since then, the tweets have been deleted, and Griffen issued an apology to the Vikings team on Twitter, saying, "@Vikings I’m sorry for saying anything negative. I love this organization. Vikings will always have a place in my heart. If you want it, go get it. All love for for real."
