The Cheyenne Moutain Zoo in Colorado Springs got creative while revealed the gender of their newest baby hippo.

On Thursday, August 12, the zoo posted a video to its official Facebook page. The zoo's employees put colored dye inside of a watermelon and fed it to the new baby's father.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the time has arrived for the baby hippo sex reveal! Water's Edge: Africa Lead Keeper, Philip, is joined by the calf's father, Biko, to mark the special occasion," reads the zoo's post. "The commissary team at #CMZoo prepared a special treat for the 18-year-old hippo dad; a watermelon with the insides dyed with animal-safe food coloring to indicate the sex of the baby. What color will it be?"

The father, Biko, smashed the watermelon and revealed the blue dye inside.

This is the first hippo born at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in 32 years. He was born to parents Zambezi and Biko on July 20, 2021, and weighed 115 pounds.

According to Africa Lead Keeper, Philip, the zoo currently has no plans for the baby boy's name.

Guests who want to visit the zoo's newest animal while he bonds with his mother can see them in the zoo's newest exhibit called Water's Edge: Africa.
