Loretta Lynn has “truly paved the way” for women in country music, including newly-inducted Grand Ole Opry member Carly Pearce, who credited the country legend and her iconic career during the 14th annual Academy of Country Music Honors on Wednesday evening (August 25).

Pearce, who hosted the event, kicked off the 2021 ACM Honors by delivering a rendition of her song “Dear Miss Loretta,” a song that serves as a nod to Lynn that features “fellow Kentucky icon” Patty Loveless, the Academy of Country Music notes. Pearce’s song was followed by a performance by iconic country singer-songwriters Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack as a tribute to Lynn: “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” a 1970s collaboration between Lynn and Conway Twitty.

Lynn was honored with the ACM Poet’s Award (along with Gretchen Peters and Curly Putman), and although she couldn’t be at the 2021 ACM Honors event at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Wednesday, she recorded a special message to express her appreciation. "I love you and that’s the greatest award I could get," she said in the recorded message. The country legend also shared in a tweet:

“It’s such a huge honor to me to receive the Poet’s Award from @ACMawards tonight at the #ACMHonors show at the Ryman. Thank y’all so much. #StillWomanEnough #NeverRetire
