Last year around this time, gas prices were exceptional. Most drivers were getting fuel at prices well below $2 per gallon. But now, prices are at an all-time high, reported FOX 13 Now.

The pandemic helped to lower prices last year. Now that everything is opening back up, prices are soaring.

Thomas Holst, senior energy analyst for the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, said, "Fundamentals are basically what's at work here. Price for crude oil is between $67 and $70 a barrel right now."

Crude oil prices lowered to single digits last year. It accounts for 60 percent of the gasoline that cars use, so it accounts significantly for the increases and decreases in price.

AAA stated that the state of Utah currently has an average gas price of around $3.83 as of Tuesday. That price is far above the national average of $3.15 per gallon.

Daggett County has the highest gas prices in the state with prices being at $4.10 per gallon.

Salt Lake County sits right at the state's average of $3.82 per gallon.

AAA's Aldo Vazquez said, "We saw that Americans were getting out there and getting to their summer destinations, especially after being cooped up at home." Vazquez says this has a direct correlation on all transportation that occurs.
