It's Lorde week over at The Late Late Show. The Grammy winner is making appearances on the talk show every night this week to promote her third studio album Solar Power.

While chatting with host James Corden on Tuesday (August 24), Lorde opened up about her decision to quit social media. “I felt like my brain wasn’t working very well anymore,” she said.

Though Lorde, born Ella Yelich-O'Connor, knew her use of social media was negatively affecting her, she still found quitting “horribly difficult." She even went so far as to say it was "the hardest thing I’ve ever done."

"It would be like stopping eating sugar, for me, I still eat tons of sugar and if I don't have sugar I feel insane. And the first little while of not being on social media was totally like that," she recalled. "I was so crabby, I felt so disconnected, but it's how my life is now. I got rid of Twitter. I got rid of Instagram. I got rid of Facebook. I blocked YouTube, that was a big one, I was like 'this is kind of a social network.'"

Though you won't find Lorde doom scrolling on Twitter anymore, she has found a replacement app. “I go on the New York Times Cooking app and I look at the comments,” she revealed. “That’s become a source of community for me. And you get all these weird little stories. Someone’s like, ‘I make this for my husband when he gets home from work. And he works as this.’ And you like, ‘Ahh.’ Every once in a while, you’ll get some crazy detail.”

In addition to sitting down with Corden for an interview, Lorde also performed one of the deep cuts off Solar Power. To perform 'California,' which details how her life changed after she won her first Grammy, Lorde recreated a beach right on The Late Late Show set.

Solar Power is out now.
