Every state has its quirks and specialties, especially when it comes to food. People flock to Illinois for Chicago's deep-dish pizza, New York has their own bagels and Texas barbecue is on a whole other level.

Florida is known for many different ingredients and local specialties, from alligator and the Cuban sandwich to any citrus imaginable. So what's the defining food for the Sunshine State?

To find this answer, we looked to Stacker, which mapped out each state's signature food. According to the website, Florida's signature food is...

Key lime pie!

Known for the tart flavor, unique texture, and refreshing citrus taste, key lime pie is a certified classic. Most people, however, don't know that this pie actually originated from South Florida.

This is what Stacker had to say about the tart dessert:

"Key lime pie originated in the Florida Keys and has become the state’s signature treat. The pale yellow filling is made from key limes and condensed milk, and the crust is typically graham cracker. Legend has it that the pie was invented in Key West in the 1890s by a local cook who combined sweetened milk with the juice of key limes, which were plentiful on the island."
