Driver Walks Away From Truck Fire Sparked By Headlight In King County

"Where did you go?" was what King County deputies were asking after they tried calling the owner of a ruined truck last week.

Authorities posted about the incident Wednesday (September 22) on Facebook. The sheriff's office Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) was called out to the SE 14900 blk. of Uplands Way SE, an area near North Bend, Saturday night (September 18). Officials helped Eastside Fire investigate a fire that consumed part of an F350 truck.

It turns out the fire originated around the left headlight and spread to the engine bay, detectives say.

"Heat, smoke and water left the interior badly damaged. This nearly fourteen-year-old F350 is likely a total loss," according to deputies.

Officials also noted that the driver of the truck was on the scene while firefighters tackled the flames. He ended up walking away and never returning, the sheriff's office claims. Deputies say they tried calling his cellphone, but he never returned the calls, leaving authorities with more questions than answers.

"The Ford was blocking the roadway with registration that expired more than two years ago," deputies wrote. "If he calls back, the Sheriff's Office will be glad to tell this truck's owner where he can find his impounded Ford."
