A popular East Bay store is closing for good after nearly a century in Pleasanton.
Christesen's Western Wear in downtown Pleasanton was a place where people went to get outfitted in western attire for 92 years.
According to KRON, the store closed its doors for good this weekend.
“I just had a ball dressing everyone up,” Charlene Herbert told KRON. “I just loved it all the young men came in they got their boots and I helped them with their hats and they looked really fine so girls get your cowboy.”
Customers took advantage of the closing sale on Saturday, September 25, with western apparel like boots and jeans marked half off.
“It’s pretty sad that it’s closing down because it’s a nice store here in a great area,” said Chris Aleman.
Despite being surrounded by restaurants and bars, the store wasn't able to stay open.
“Business has been slowing down. I’d say the last 10 years we’ve seen a steady decline,” store manager Freddy Schoorl told KRON. “It’s just not COVID, it’s just a steady decline in business and it’s not feasible to keep on going."
Schoorl also added that online shopping has made it tough for businesses.
The store officially shut its doors on Sunday, September 26.
