Authorities are warning residents in Luther, Oklahoma, about a potential mountain lion roaming around town.

The Luther Fire Department and Police Department reported that there were a handful of sightings on Wednesday evening. Some called the police about the mountain lion in the 500 block of North Cedar.

The most recent sighting was between 5-6 p.m. near South Cedar and the junior high school.

“Our brothers at the [Luther Police Department] are fully aware and on the lookout for the big cat,” fire officials said. “Please if you see it DO NOT approach it.”

No one with the police department has seen the mountain lion themselves, but cops are working with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. Still, authorities can't say for certain where the cougar is.

"At this time it cannot be determined if one was in town or not on Cedar St. No definitive proof or evidence was located to verify this. It’s not to say there wasn’t one or not. Again, we are not discrediting anyone but we have to go by what we see or are told by firsthand eyewitnesses," police shared in a Facebook post on Thursday.
