There are plenty of classic movies filmed and set in San Francisco.

However, there are also classic movies that have nothing to do with the Bay but were still shot locally.

Here are 5 classic films you had no idea were filmed in the Bay Area, according to SFGate:

The Godfather (1972)

This classic film was obviously shot in New York and Italy but there is one scene that was shot in Marin County. The school where Kay Adams (Diane Keaton) works is actually Ross Elementary which is located just 13 miles north of San Francisco.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

Even further from New York, this installment of the iconic action series is set in Shanghai. But the airport scene towards the beginning of the film is actually Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

The highway chase scene in this sequel to the classic 1999 film The Matrix was actually filmed in the East Bay. Most of the film was filmed at Fox Studios in Australia except for this scene which was filmed in the Webster Street Tube between Alameda and Oakland and a highway constructed especially for the film on a decommissioned runway at the naval air station in Alameda.

Scream (1996)

This classic slasher film is set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California. Wes Craven used locations in Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Tomales Bay, and more to create his fictional town. The Marin County house seen in the film is being rented out this Halloween.

Angels in the Outfield (1994)

Because of a scheduling conflict, this movie about the Anaheim Angels actually couldn't be filmed at Angel Stadium. Instead, Disney decided to film the baseball scenes at the Oakland Coliseum.
