A man was arrested after stealing an Amazon driver's delivery truck and leading San Diego police on a chase on Tuesday, December 14, reports FOX5.
The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said the carjacker finally stopped in an East County church parking lot. However, they say he only surrendered after authorities shredded the truck's tires with a spike strip.
The incident started on Ben Street in Clairemont Mesa around 9:00 P.M. when a 45-year-old man shoved the delivery driver away from his vehicle, jumped in, and sped off.
A call went out to authorities to track down the stolen truck.
According to FOX5, the truck was not marked with Amazon's colors or logo because it the driver was in a UHaul box truck, which Amazon uses to supplement deliveries during the busy holiday season.
“The driver continued until his tires were shredded from being spiked,” SDPD said in a news release.
After pulling over at the Shadow Mountain Community Church parking lot on Greenfield Drive in El Cajon, the police took the man into custody.
The man's specific chargers and other information from the chase were not immediately released to the public.
