The San Diego Humane Society is celebrating what would have been actress Betty White's 100th birthday by waiving adoption fees for all adult animals this week, starting Tuesday, January 11.

The organization is aiming to find homes for 100 pets before White's 100th birthday on Monday, January 17.

The iconic television star who died on December 31 was a lover of animals.

Since her death, new stories revealing just how committed she was to the welfare of animals have come to light.

The waiving of adoption fees is the Humane Society's take on the #BettyWhiteChallenge, which is a social media campaign encouraging fans to donate $5 in White's name to an animal shelter as a way of honoring her memory on her birthday, according to CBS8.

"Betty White was an inspiration for many reasons, and her commitment to supporting animals was certainly one of them," San Diego Humane Society Chief Operating Officer Jessica Des Lauriers told CBS8. "We're happy to honor her legacy by waiving adoption fees and helping more pets find loving homes."

The San Diego Humane Society is open for walk-in adoptions from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Tuesday through Sunday in Escondido, El Cajon, Oceanside, and San Diego.

Adoption fees will be waived through Sunday, January 16.
