VIDEO: San Diego Man Shocked By Large, Rare Snake Hiding In His Couch

A Chula Vista homeowner was surprised to find a snake inside his couch and the professional who came to remove it was even more shocked at what type of snake they found.

"This guy calls me, is pretty frantic and he's like, 'There's a snake in my couch,'” Alex Trejo who owns So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal told KGTV. While Trejo is used to calls like this, he wasn't expecting what he ended up finding at the man's home.

“I literally lift the cushion and there this giant 7-foot Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake is just coiled up right behind the cushion," he said.

Trejo told KGTV that the Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake is a very rare find. "You'd be more lucky to find a Rolex sitting on the ground than a snake like this.”

Luckily, the snakes aren't venomous but they can be a bit defensive, making the removal tough. “He didn't get my skin, but he actually got the lining of my shirt.”

While it's legal to keep this breed as a pet, the homeowner said it didn't belong to him and he had no idea where it came from. This leads Trejo to believe the one found on the couch likely escaped from its owner.

However, the Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake only thrives in tropical weather, and being outside of a controlled climate for days resulted in a respiratory infection.

“I have a very good friend who deals with these exotic animals and he's treating the snake right now. We really are keeping our fingers crossed hoping the snake makes it.”
