Easter Bunny might have to hide eggs in jail this year. A female Fairview Heights police officer was assaulted at the St. Clair Square Mall by the Easter Bunny employee on Thursday night, and a police chase ensued.
According to FOX2, the man ran through the mall after assaulting the officer and police had to chase him down and use a taser to restrain him.
FOX2 contacted a St. Clair Square Mall spokesperson who told them that the Easter Bunny was sourced through Cherry Hill Programs and that the man was not hired directly by the mall.
The mall, a popular venue for Illinois residents, is located very close to the border of Missouri and is also a high traffic area for St. Louis residents.
The suspect who's name police have yet to release, was noted as not wearing the Easter Bunny uniform at the time of the assault, but he did have it on earlier that day.
The Fairview Police Department released this statement regarding the event:
“This is an ongoing investigation with the Fairview Heights Police Department. This was an isolated incident, and the police are investigating.”
The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the assault and charges have yet to be filed against the employee.
