The U.S. Marshals are searching for a 34-year-old Detroit native connected to the May 11 shooting of Anna Moriah Wilson in Texas.
An affidavit says the suspect, Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, and the 25-year-old Wilson had recently been in romantic relationships with the same man, professional cyclist Colin Strickland, according to CNN. Detailed text messages and interviews with tipsters suggest jealousy could have been a motive in the murder.
Wilson was staying at the home of a friend in Austin, Texas, before a cycling race in Hico. On May 11, Wilson told her friend she was going on an afternoon swim with Strickland, CNN confirmed in an interview with police. According to Strickland, the two had dinner together afterward and then he dropped Wilson off at her friend's home. He didn't go inside.
Shorty before 10 p.m. local time, Austin police responded to the home to find Wilson's friend performing CPR on her, according to the affidavit. Wilson appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds, and officers saw “multiple fired cartridge cases on the floor,” but a firearm was not found. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators obtained video surveillance which shows a vehicle similar to Armstrong's near the home shortly before Wilson's body was found, according to the affidavit. In addition, ballistic evidence found at the scene was compared to bullets test-fired from a firearm Strickland recently purchased for Armstrong. The document claims the “potential that the same firearm was involved is significant.”
Armstrong, who was living with Strickland in Austin, is wanted on a first-degree murder charge. Anyone with information on Armstrong's whereabouts is urged to contact authorities.
