The death of Anne Heche has left her son and ex-husband "with a deep, wordless sadness."

The I Know What You Did Last Summer actress died Friday (August 12), a week after her tragic car accident that left her in critical condition. Her family and friends confirmed her death after revealing they took her off life support. She was 53.

Heche's 20-year-old son Homer Laffoon opened up about his loss in a statement to Page Six. "My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom. Over those six days, thousands of friends, family, and fans made their hearts known to me. I am grateful for their love, as I am for the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi who continue to be my rock during this time. Rest In Peace Mom, I love you, Homer," he said.

Coleman "Coley Laffoon" also shared a heartfelt tribute on social media following his ex-wife's death. "In the wake of Anne's passing, I just wanted to say a few things. One, I loved her and I miss her. And I'm always going to. Two, Homer is OK. He's grieving, of course. And it's rough, it's really rough, probably as anybody can imagine. But he's surrounded by family and he's strong and he is going to be OK. And for all those people checking in, thank you. ... It's hard for me, it's hard for our family. It's really hard for Homer but we've got each other and we have a lot of support and we are going to be OK," Laffoon said in an Instagram video.

He continues, "I think Anne is probably, I'd like to think she's free from pain and enjoying her experience, whatever is next in her journey. She came in hot and she had a lot to say. She was brave and fearless, loved really hard and was never afraid to let us know what she thinks and what she believed in and it was always love. It was all about love. So goodbye, Anne. Love you. Thank you for the good times, there were so many. And in the meantime, see you on the other side. I got our son and he will be fine."

Coley was Anne's first and only husband. The couple got married in 2001 after meeting on the set of an Ellen DeGeneres documentary, according to Page Six. They welcomed their first child Homer in 2002. The couple finalized their divorce in 2009, three years after Heche met Canadian actor James Tupper, who she had a long-term relationship with from 2008 to 2018 and also shares 13-year-old son Atlas with. Laffoon went on to marry Alexi, who he now shares three children with.

Tupper also shared a tribute on Instagram, saying "love you forever 💔."
