Houston Astros starter Christian Javier and relievers Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero and Ryan Pressly combined to throw the second no-hitter in World Series history and the first combined postseason no-hitter during the team's 5-0 win against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 at Citizens Bank Ballpark on Wednesday (November 2) night.

Javier recorded nine strikeouts and two walks through six hitless innings before Abreu and Montero each retired the side and Pressly allowed only a walk in the ninth.

Javier, who spoke via translator, told the Associated Press that his parents predicted he was going to throw a no-hitter when his father arrived from the Dominican Republic earlier this week to see him pitch for the first time.

“I just came out holding onto God, trying to be positive, trying to attack the strike zone,” Javier said. “Thanks to God I was able to accomplish that.”

Late New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen had previously thrown a perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1956 World Series.

Late former Cy Young winner Roy Halladay had also thrown a postseason no-hitter as a member of the Phillies against the Cincinnati Reds, who were managed by current Astros manager Dusty Baker at the time in 2010.

“Oh, yeah, I was on the other end in this ballpark. I mean, that’s what’s strange about life,” Baker said via the AP.

Houston tied the series, 2-2, bouncing back from a 5-0 loss in Game 3.

Game 5 will take place on Thursday (November 3) night in Philadelphia before the series shifts back to Houston for Game 6 and Game 7 if necessary.
