As thousands of Floridians grapple with the effects of Tropical Storm Nicole, some South Florida residents noticed a huge chunk of a popular pier missing.
Anglin's Fishing Pier, located in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, partially collapsed from the storm's fierce winds and waves, according to WPLG. The pier is normally 900 feet in length yet suffered severe damage as shown in news broadcasts. Witness videos also show planks of wood and other debris littering the nearby beach.
“Irma destroyed all the rest out there in the front and now this,” a beachgoer told reporters. “What’s crazy is that this isn’t a hurricane anymore, it’s just waves and wind that took it out. So that’s what’s odd to me.”
“Anglin’s Fishing Pier is such an iconic landmark in our town, and seeing it damaged is heartbreaking," Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Mayor Chris Vincent said in a statement posted to Facebook. "While the pier is privately owned, I know our Town will do what we can to support the property owner in the coming days and months."

Nicole made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane in Vero Beach early Thursday morning (November 10), quickly weakening into a tropical storm as it heads north. According to WFLA, it's the first hurricane in nearly 40 years to strike the United States this late into the season.
