When you think of high school mascots, you probably think of things like tigers, lions, bulldogs, and eagles. But some schools' mascots are much more unique.

Concho Valley Homepage reported that Texas has some of the most unique mascots we've ever heard of. Here are four unique Texas high school mascots:

Unicorns

Just 48 miles form Austin is a school that is the home of the Unicorns. The New Braunfels high school mascot was introduced in 1928.

Hippos

Hutto High School is known as being the home of the Hippos. According to local legend, in 1915 a circus train stopped at the local train station for mail, water, and fuel. During that stop, a hippo escaped from a railcar and made its way into Cottonwood Creek.

Golden Sandies

Amarillo High School is home of the Sandies. If you're confused about what that means, it's just a shortened word for sandstorm. The mascot was introduced over 100 years ago when the school's baseball team was practicing in the windblown sand.

Blizzards

Winters High School is home of the Blizzards. According to the website, the city was named after John N. Winters, setting up the perfect storm for a clever high school mascot.
