Rihanna has blessed fans with a potential release date for her long-awaited ninth album.
In a new interview British Vogue published on Wednesday, February 15, the Barbadian artist opened up about her Super Bowl performance and how her life has changed since she gave birth to her first child with A$AP Rocky last year. Since then, she been working on her various business ventures, like Savage X Fenty and Fenty Beauty, and her upcoming album. Rihanna, who's currently pregnant with her second child, was asked about the status of her new album and when fans can expect it. She said she wants to drop it this year.
“I want it to be this year,” Rihanna said. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking."
Rihanna has been recording since she released her ANTI album in 2016, but only recently released two new songs for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. In addition to the album update, Rihanna also explained what life has been like raising her son with Rocky. She said the Harlem rapper is "obsessed" with being a father and feels like "the girl trying to get into the boys club" whenever they're all together. She also described how protective they've become of their son, who's name has not yet been revealed.
“It’s the thing you never want to happen,” she said of paparazzi taking photos of her son. “We get to decide as parents when and how we do that. End of story. Throw me to the wolves. Do what you want with me. But he doesn’t have a say in any of this. We’ve been protecting him thus far and you don’t have any consent to be posting photos or selling photos of my child, a minor. Get the hell out of here with that.”
