Jimmie Allen said that he and his estranged, pregnant wife are joining forces to “resolve things together as a family,” amid pending legal filings.

Allen and his wife, Alexis Gale, announced in April that they “have made the decision to separate” after nearly two years of marriage. In the same statement, the couple confirmed that they were also expecting another child together.

Allen is also currently accused of assault and sexual abuse, though he maintained his innocence and said it was consensual. He filed two counterclaims in court against the women, according to multiple news reports, including PEOPLE.

The country artist recently told PEOPLE that “the divorce case is still pending, as my wife and I are working to resolve things together as a family.” He also said he “wanted to fix my family first,” by “making sure their mental health and stability are OK in light of these hurtful, false allegations. I took some time off to be with my wife, kids and friends, to ensure everyone was OK.”

Allen and Gale tied the knot in May of 2021. In addition to the baby on the way, they’re parents to daughters Naomi Bettie, born in March 2020, and Zara James, born in October 2021. Allen is also father to son Aadyn, 8, from a previous relationship. Gale revealed on Instagram on Mother’s Day on Sunday (May 14) that she’s pregnant with another boy.

“After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate,” Allen said in a statement he posted on Instagram on April 21. “As we navigate the life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year. Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another. In light (of) our growing family, we respectfully request privacy during this time.”

I want to publicly apologize to my wife Alexis for humiliating her with my affair. I’m embarrassed that my choices have brought shame on her. That’s something that she did not deserve at all,” Allen wrote in a public apology to his family in May. “I also want to apologize to my children for being a poor example of a man and a father. I’m working on becoming a better person that my kids can be proud of. My goal is to be better than the generation before me.

“This business takes so much from you,” he continued. “It’s full of temptations that can cripple you and ruin everything you’ve built. I’m ashamed that I wasn’t strong enough to withstand them. I will no longer be a victim of my weaknesses. I challenge everyone to seek help when they need it. Do not be afraid of your weakness, surround yourself with people that WILL help you. Be Blessed.”
