Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood, Brian Kelley, Brooks & Dunn’s Ronnie Dunn and other country artists posted heartfelt tributes on 9/11, marking the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy on Monday (September 11).
Thousands of Americans were killed in the horrific terrorist attack that took place on September 11, 2001. Officials gathered in New York City on Monday to honor hundreds of first responders who died in the line of duty and who have lost their lives since then.
Dunn reflected that he was set to play a concert in Pennsylvania days after the 9/11 attack, “not far from where United Flight 93 had crashed.” Though he said “it felt inappropriate” to follow through with the show, he and duo partner Kix Brooks moved forward and “it was the most emotional show I can remember being a part of,” as the crowd cheered, waved thousands of American flags and “defiantly” chanted “USA.”
Yearwood said in a statement that she sends love to the families who lost loved ones in 2001, and expressed appreciation for the first responders who “risked everything to save the ones they could.” She encouraged others to “show kindness” to one another today.
Others — including Tyler Hubbard, Megan Moroney, Brittany Aldean, Hannah Ellis and more — shared tributes on their Instagram stories. Priscilla Block said it “hits a little harder” to fly on this day as she shared a photo of the wing of a plane. It’s “crazy to think it’s been 22 years since our world was shattered, lives were taken and so many people lost a brother, sister, mom, dad, cousin, daughter, son, grandparent, wife, husband, or friend. I feel thankful that I get to walk off this flight, call the people that I love, and get to experience another beautiful day on this earth. 9/11 you will never be forgotten.”
