Scotty McCreery said it “still doesn’t feel real,” after Garth Brooks surprised him on the Grand Ole Opry stage on Sunday night (December 3). Brooks handed McCreery a wrapped gift, complete with a giant red bow, as he invited the “Cab In A Solo” artist to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry in a heartfelt moment during the Opry Country Christmas show.

McCreery shared a few photos from that evening on Instagram on Monday (December 4), including snapshots on the legendary stage with Brooks, a posed photo with his wife and 1-year-old son (who knows a “GOAT” when he sees one, McCreery shared on his Instagram story, noting son Avery’s gaze toward the “Friends In Low Places” megastar), and more.

“Last night was one of the greatest nights of my life,” McCreery wrote in his caption on Instagram. “I wish I could tell that 10 year old boy singing The Dance on the edge of his bed at 2 in the morning, that one day [Garth Brooks] would invite him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry! Still doesn’t feel real. Thank you [Grand Ole Opry] for the honor of a lifetime🙏🏼 Proud to be a part of the family.”

“When I got started doing this young, people said, ‘what’s your goals?’ And I said, ‘one day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry,’” McCreery, who won American Idol as a teen and is now 30, said on stage on Sunday night.

McCreery will join Brooks and other country music legends and peers — including Trisha YearwoodAlan JacksonReba McEntireJon PardiDolly PartonRandy Travis and Carrie Underwood, to name a few — when he officially becomes an Opry member. His induction date will be announced at a later time, per the Grand Ole Opry.
