Amy Grant opened up about her recovery following a traumatic bicycle accident in 2022.

Grant, 63, was hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, following the traumatic accident in July 2022. She returned to the stage that holiday season to perform Christmas shows, and said at that time that her “healing continues.”

“I still have issues with my short term memory. My balance is still weird,” Grant said in a recent interview with E! News. “I made a joke about it last night. You know, sometimes I walk around like I’m drunk and I just, you just have to laugh about all of it. And so I can’t remember what I can’t remember. I don’t know if I’ll get back on a bike. There’s so many great sports to enjoy. ...I don’t know. I mean, who knows?”

Grant added that “unbeknownst to me,” she had a cyst growing in her throat that “went into hyper growth” because of the trauma from the bike accident. It was removed after a five-hour surgery, and “I actually had to learn to sing again,” she said. “I came out of surgery and my neck was a little tighter. I just felt like an old beat-up car that went in and got a paint job, and had the dents knocked out, and it was just, I mean…that’s a gift.”

In August 2022, Grant shared a heartfelt message and a health update as she recovered from the bike accident the month prior. She wrote at that time: “I want to say thank you to everyone who has written me a note, sent flowers or gifts, or said a prayer on my behalf. I'm one month into a recovery that has held so many unexpected hidden gifts. On the advice of my doctors and other friends who have been through similar experiences of recovery, I am choosing to give myself the gift of a very simple fall season. I look forward to making music with (Michael W. Smith) and (her husband, fellow singer-songwriter Vince Gill) during the Christmas season. With deep appreciation and joy.... xo Amy”
