Megan Moroney released her highly-demanded, deeply vulnerable breakup ballad that’ll serve as a tear-jerker to anyone going through heartbreak. The Georgia-born singer-songwriter debuted “28th of June” after revealing sneak peeks on TikTok. The song mourns the loss of a relationship on its would-be anniversary.

Moroney teamed up with Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter and Micah Carpenter to write “28th of June,” which follows another heartache single from earlier this year, “No Caller ID.” Moroney’s latest release delves into the struggles of moving on after the split, and enduring memories stirring up around the time of the anniversary that she won’t get to celebrate. Moroney, a leading 2024 CMT Music Awards nominee, reunited with collaborator Kristian Bush, whom she also worked with on her powerful debut album Lucky, to record “28th of June” at the legendary Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee.

“I've been taking every ounce of free time that I have to write and be in the studio, so I'm just keeping the ball rolling,” Moroney told iHeartCountry in an interview in December, hinting at follow-ups to Lucky on the way soon. “I know that my fans are excited for new music, so try to keep them happy.”

Moroney acknowledged when she revealed the release date of “28th of June” that she “could’ve put out 28th of june on the 28th of june bc it lands on a friday this year & that makes a whole lot of sense but honestly who would want to wait that long???? march 22 it is.” She added, “how would u cry to 28th of june on the 28th of june if you’re still learning the words it’s going to be a national holiday.” On Thursday (March 21), Moroney posted: “28th of June comes out tonight i hope everyone is ready to cry.”
